Hello, my name is Indy and welcome to the Path of Peace Podcast where we explore topics of meditation, yoga and how we can live peacefully, ethically and sustainably through the 21st century and beyond.
I became interested in the peace as a teenager in the early 2000s, during the time of the beginning of the Afganistan and Iraq wars, when I became interested in geopolitics and also attended several peace rallies and protests. As I learned about the world around me, particularly about deforestation and global hunger, I became both angry and depressed as I felt that it was possible to overcome these challenges, yet there did not seem to be the global will to do so.
Later in my teens I was introduced to the book ‘Awareness’ by Anthony de Mello which allowed a perspective on the world whereby I did not feel so immediately affected by global circumstances. This was part of a developing interest in meditation which later led to living in Buddhist monasteries for over eight years of my twenties and thirties.
I am really interested by the subject of peace and particularly the balance between inner peace and outer peace. Do we need to live in a peaceful world in order to find or be at peace in ourselves? Do we need to find inner peace first in order to be able to make this a possibility in the world around us?
In this podcast I would like to discuss the challenges facing the world today, and the difficulties around creating sustained peace. Writing at the time of high profile conflicts in Ukraine and Gaza, the world does not feel a very peaceful place, and there do not seem to be straightforward or easy resolutions to these conflicts. Is there a way that we can shift the dialogue back towards global peace? What would need to happen for this to occur?
Myself and friends have dedicated many years of our adult lives to learning or practicing meditation and yoga. How have these benefitted us and what are the challenges for integrating these practices into modern life? How can the ancient wisdom of these traditions inform our generation in a way that is really useful for now?
Join me as I explore these topics and more through this podcast. If you have questions or comments, please do share them in a respectful way.
Peace,
Indy
